Advance Performance fought off strong competition from the national brands of John Lewis and Specsavers and was singled out for its proven high quality customer service, strong financial performance, product and store innovation. The judges were also looking for competent employees, well trained in product knowledge, who are smart, polite and aware of health and safety issues. AdvancePerformance are Runner Up in the
British Small Business Champion Awards!
The judges were certainly impressed by the Peterborough running store, with last
year's winner, Heather Gorringe, Managing Director of Wiggley Wigglers the 2006
British Small Business Champion and now one of the judges commenting, "Advance
Performance really stood out from all the entries during the judging process.
Their presentations were excellent and they should not stand for second place
but go for it again in 2008!" What the judges were looking for:
This award will go to retailers who stand out against the competition and who
can demonstrate the highest store standards as well as being at the forefront
of independent retailing.
Businesses must show real commitment to community retailing and must
demonstrate they have gone out of their way to support their customers.
Demonstrate strong financial performance; product and store improvements; high
customer satisfaction and clear evidence that the business has moved forward in
the last 12 months.
A fabulous trophy and certificate were awarded to Managing Director of Advance
Performance, Samantha Hale, who said, "It was an honour to be present at the
gala dinner with Britain's top small businesses. We have learned so much from
the experience and we look forward to competing again next time."
The British Small Business Champion Awards are for companies with fewer than 50
employees, aim to celebrate and recognise the achievements and importance of
the UK's small business sector. The Awards are organised by Britain's leading
business organisation, the Federation of Small Businesses. Advance Performance
was short-listed as an Area Finalist from many companies across Central
Britain, an area stretching across 20 counties from Cheshire, to mid Wales, and
areas from Gloucestershire, across to Suffolk and to Essex in the south.

alongside multi-million pound turnover businesses. For three consecutive years,
Advance Performance has been a finalist in two categories of the Business
Weekly East of England Business Awards and in 2006 were finalists in two
categories of the Evening Telegraph Business Awards. The Peterborough running
store has achieved a consistently strong reputation for giving best advice and
outstanding customer service, with resulting increases in sales and
profitability year on year.
