Shoe of the Month January 2021 – Saucony Peregrin 10
Advance Performance Shoe of the Month January.
Saucony Peregrine 10
The tread of your average road shoe may not be giving you the confidence you require to feel secure, safe and grounded off-road at this time of year. Enter the Saucony Peregrine 10, the AP shoe of the month for January.
Despite the fact that this shoe is similar in weight to its predecessors and with 2mm increase in stack height, it feels more efficient to the point where the Peregrine 10 has returned to its speedier performance roots with improvements.
The fit is fantastic, providing you with confidence over the trails. It’s very much true-to-size, the mid-foot is held very well, and the heel hold is noticeable with ample room in the toe box.
The upper provides a very secure feeling at any speed over any terrain whether that be a leisurely Sunday long run or on race day. The Peregrine 10 feels lighter and more responsive than previous models. Overall, this trail shoe provides a snug fit across the midfoot laces and in the heel.
The new PWRUN midsole from Saucony replaces the firmer and denser Everun foam, replacing the older PWRFM midsole used in the ISO and the Peregrine 8 is firmer, responsive, and stable. PWRUN is better suited for the Peregrine 10, making it a perfect match for more technical terrain types but also a good companion for less challenging terrain.
The PWRTRAC outsole provides good traction over a wide variety of terrain and is notable for its exceptional versatility. The lugs have been shortened from 6 to 5mm and can now better shed mud because they have been spaced out more compared to previous models.
The rock plate underneath provides good protection from sharp objects like rocks/stone/branches that have the potential to penetrate through the midsole, but even with this plate the shoe still has good flexibility within the midsole.
Overall the ride of the Peregrine 10 is very predictable, you just know what you’re getting.
It’s smooth through almost any terrain but agile and “fast” enough to perform well on race day. On firmer grounds, the ride can feel slightly harsh, but this particular model is can cope with almost anything you throw at it – and for that reason, it’s AP’s Shoe of the Month for January.
